Jeffrey Johnson worked for thirty years as an alternative school counselor and a therapist in private practice. He’s the father of two grown daughters and has been a caregiver for his elderly mother and a brother with mental health needs. The following is from Jeffrey’s review of my book “Dads Like Us” in the most recent issue of “Lake Country Journal.” (lakecountryjournal.com)
““Dads Like Us”—written from an experienced dad’s perspective—is an absolute go-to resource, a concise guiding framework for parenting, teaching and caregiving. Harris brilliantly relates to the reader with humor, compassion and common sense. A rare commodity. I didn’t turn a page without finding some wise and compassionate idea.”
“A short book with a massive batch of real-life scenarios, (its heart) is about relationships with our kids, how to nurture them and keep them safe, while also reminding us to care about our own well-being and balance.”
“While he’s quick to say he is not an expert, in my view, he is an expert at writing an easy-to-follow lifeline for caregivers in any situation.”
“He writes with a warm, supportive tone but delivers a hardline approach when necessary. His most significant achievement is letting us know it’s okay to be gentler and more patient with ourselves about our mistakes as parents and caregivers.”
“After reading this book I’ll be more understanding with my children and grandchildren, be more forgiving of myself, and (will) strive to be patient with people and situations in general. I’m a work in progress, which feels a little more okay today. Thanks, Mr. Harris.”
